Bid by first woman to trek to North Pole called off – just 89 miles from top of the world (Daily Mail, UK)

An adventurer’s bid to become the first woman to trek solo to the North Pole has been called off – with just 89 miles to go.
Rosie Stancer, from south-west London, was forced to scrap her record-breaking attempt due to some of the worst Arctic weather experts have ever seen.

The expedition was due to take around 60 days – but 47-year-old Mrs Stancer was picked up after enduring 84 days on the shifting, cracking Arctic ice cap.
Mrs Stancer, just 5ft 3 ins tall, from Barnes, had battled 326 miles before calling it a day.
