Back to School – Campion School Athens

Slogging through the pre-expedition fundraising phase is every bit as gruelling as the tyre training, but every now and then a little fairy dust scatters down and lightens life up. Today a cheque floated in from, of all places, Greece. The 4th year of the Campion School in Athens had been studying explorers and adventurers, and zeroed in on North Pole Solo. To raise funds to support our expedition, they had a kind of bake-off, see pic.
This cake fest raised a handsome sum and will also fuel my mind across the bleak miles ahead with food fantasies of fairy cakes, muffins, iced cakes and all manner of patisserie fantasy. It’s enough of a distraction thinking about it here in front of my computer within dangerous walking distance of the local baker. They’re going to be feeding in some questions as I make my way to the Pole, so long as it’s nawt to do with how to make a cake raise. I hope that this will lend an exciting dimension to their curriculum.

I remember how at my son’s school during the last expedition, they hung up a time line and attached the relevant subjects of the curriculum to it. This is exactly the sort of project that the expedition wants to encourage within schools all over the world.
Recently I went back to school myself….. see next blog ‘ Hands off’
